Don't Let Your Website Go Flat

A website can often times turn into a virtual billboard - HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! This is a terrible mistake and extremely dissatisfying to your users. With all the tools and web applications available to enhance your site, there is no reason to think flat! Here are some quick ways to spruce up a flat site:

• Use creative linking within your site. Of course there is a menu, but some people need promting in the middle of a sentence or some like to click on graphics. Use several different ways to get your users moving around your site.
• Change the front page at least once a month. It is the first page people usually see and if that never changes, they will assume nothing else has either.
• Add a picture slide show.  Use pictures of your customers, followers, yourself, your products, events. People like to see themselves and see you too! It puts a face on your website and users are able to relate, plus they can share the pictures with friends.
  
• Create a current gallery of events and happenings related to you. Use lots of pictures, this a visual medium. Limit words by using pictures to tell your story.
  
• Try Blogging, or just communicate with your customers or audience regularly, it helps you connect with them, share your knowledge they will appreciate that.
  
• Post a survey, readers love to get involved, plus its a good way to get instant feedback.
  
• Consider music - this is a debated topic, but as long as it is not obnoxious and the user has the option to mute, it is totally acceptable.
• Have an online contest, give something away, test your reader feedback
